VESTED® CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
Ci-Advisory is a Vested® Centre of Excellence and offers full coaching and consulting support to teach and implement the University of Tennessee (UT)’s Vested methodology for creating highly collaborative win-win relationships. As a Center of Excellence, we promote the awareness and understanding of the Vested model and how a “What’s In It For We” (WIIFWe) mindset leads to greater value creation and satisfaction for both partners to the arrangement. We also assist and support organisation’s in their Vested journey (see services provided in the sidebar).
What is Vested?
Vested is a hybrid business model, methodology, mindset, and movement based on award-winning research conducted by the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business and supported by funding from the U.S. Air Force.
What started out as a research project aimed at finding a better way to outsource, evolved into an award-winning methodology and business model coined “Vested.” The Vested methodology and business model has been adopted across many industries and markets and is creating sweeping changes in how business is done. For example:
• P&G and Jones Lang LaSalle (facilities and real estate management)
• Microsoft and Accenture (business process outsourcing)
• Minnesota Dept of Transportation and Flatiron-Manson (construction)
• Department of Energy and Kaiser-Hill (environmental cleanup)
• McDonald’s (supply chain management)
• Water for People (non-profit)
• Diversey and Wipro (information technology)
• Integrated Management Solutions (labour services)
Today over 350 organizations have taken one or more of UT’s Vested courses as they set out on a journey to create strategic relationships to drive innovation and create value under win-win Vested agreements. When applied, the Vested business model fosters a highly collaborative environment that sparks innovation, resulting in transformation, improved service and reduced costs.

What’s in it for We?
Traditional business relationships are focused on win-lose arrangements where one party benefits at the other’s expense (a “what’s in it for me” or “WIIFMe” mentality). In contrast, Vested creates a win-win relationship in which both parties are equally Vested in each other’s success (a “what’s in it for we” or “WIIFWe” mentality).
Win-win
Win-win is also known as “solutions concept” and is based on what is often referred to as “game theory.” The most famous of the behavioural economists are John Nash and Robert Axelrod. Vested leverages win-win thinking associated with behavioural economics.
Collaboration, transparency, flexibility, and trust
Vested relationships depend on collaboration, transparency, flexibility, and trust. Rather than conventional arrangements where companies buy transactions or services from suppliers, Vested arrangements instead focus on “buying results.”
Value for both parties
Vested relationships and agreements create value for both parties that did not exist previously.
