Additional Information

VESTED® CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Ci-Advisory is a Vested® Centre of Excellence and offers full coaching and consulting support to teach and implement the University of Tennessee (UT)’s Vested methodology for creating highly collaborative win-win relationships. As a Center of Excellence, we promote the awareness and understanding of the Vested model and how a “What’s In It For We” (WIIFWe) mindset leads to greater value creation and satisfaction for both partners to the arrangement. We also assist and support organisation’s in their Vested journey (see services provided in the sidebar).

 What is Vested?

Vested is a hybrid business model, methodology, mindset, and movement based on award-winning research conducted by the University of Tennessee’s Haslam College of Business and supported by funding from the U.S. Air Force.

What started out as a research project aimed at finding a better way to outsource, evolved into an award-winning methodology and business model coined “Vested.” The Vested methodology and business model has been adopted across many industries and markets and is creating sweeping changes in how business is done. For example:

• P&G and Jones Lang LaSalle (facilities and real estate management)
• Microsoft and Accenture (business process outsourcing)
• Minnesota Dept of Transportation and Flatiron-Manson (construction)
• Department of Energy and Kaiser-Hill (environmental cleanup)
• McDonald’s (supply chain management)
• Water for People (non-profit)
• Diversey and Wipro (information technology)
• Integrated Management Solutions (labour services)

Today over 350 organizations have taken one or more of UT’s Vested courses as they set out on a journey to create strategic relationships to drive innovation and create value under win-win Vested agreements. When applied, the Vested business model fosters a highly collaborative environment that sparks innovation, resulting in transformation, improved service and reduced costs.

Building Awareness

  • We can assist organisations  in their Vested journey by helping them gain the knowledge and      understanding that is a foundation to a successful collaborative WIN/WIN  deal. We can help clients build awareness both internally and with trading      partners. We do this by running workshops and by facilitating access to  the University of Tennessee education programs which include in-house,  on-line and open courses at the UT Campus. Please contact us      to discuss your needs.

Conducting Sourcing Business Model Assessments

  • Not every relationship or  deal is suitable for a Vested agreement; sometimes a more transactional   approach is more suitable. CI-Advisory can help clients to properly  identify the most appropriate sourcing business model using the innovative Sourcing Business Model Mapping methodology developed by researchers at  the University of Tennessee. This methodology assesses the potential  agreement from the viewpoint of the ‘Contract Relationship’ and the  ‘Economic Model’ and positions the client's intended arrangement along the Sourcing Continuum:
  • CI-Advisory can help clients  to undertake this assessment via workshops, online coaching or      facilitating access to the University of Tennessee’s courses. If you would like to know more, please contact us to discuss your needs.

Assessing Readiness

  • Ci-Advisory can also assist your journey by helping you to assess you and your trading partner’s readiness to enter into a Vested agreement. This review can include an assessment of the relationship using a Compatibility and Trust assessment (CaT) as well as an evaluation of whether a Vested agreement is suitable for the activities or product that is to be outsourced. We can also      provide access to ‘self-assessment’ tools which clients can use to benchmark their current position and measure their progress. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

Conducting Deal Reviews

  • We can also conduct a detailed ‘Deal Review’ which encompasses the assessments mentioned above  and a review of the documentation, contracts and planned governance      processes for the agreement. The ‘Deal Review’ can also be applied to existing arrangements where the parties believe that improvements are possible with a more collaborative agreement. The important part of the      Deal Review process is that we work for the ‘Deal,’ not for individual parties. As such, this work would normally be funded by both parties to the agreement. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

Contract or Document Reviews

  • Where there is an existing  or proposed contract between the party’s Ci-Advisory can evaluate the  documents against the Vested criteria and provide feedback on whether the parties have a Vested Deal and if not suggestions as to how it could be made to meet the criteria. Please contact us to discuss your      needs.

Coaching Vested Deals

  • Ci-Advisory has a team of Certified Deal Architect's that are able to to assist clients to implement a Vested deal with their chosen partner.  Using the 'Creating a Vested Agreement' online course from the University of Tennessee's Vested Faculty as a foundation our CDA's will  coach and facilitate the parties to target the right outcomes and align incentives so that the deal meets all of the '5' Rules' of Vested Outsourcing.  Organisation's that have successfully implemented a Vested deal have achieved benefits that they never thought possible.  To understand more about Vested and how we can help please contact us to discuss your potential project or deal.

Ongoing Coaching and the 'Standing Neutral'

  • Clients that have developed  their own skills through the workshops and University of Tennessee      programs may still benefit from coaching during the creation of their  Vested arrangement. The presence of an independent third party can ensure  the agreement continues to focus on WIIFWe. This role sometimes called the   ‘Standing Neutral,’ keeps both parties accountable to the Vision,      Guidelines and Intended Behaviours which form an essential part of any  Vested or collaborative agreement. Please contact us to      discuss your needs.

Summary

A particular program might include all of the above elements or only individual sections as needed.  Again, please feel free to contact us to discuss your needs:

When applied, the Vested business model fosters a highly collaborative environment that sparks innovation, resulting in transformation, improved service and reduced costs.

What’s in it for We?

Traditional business relationships are focused on win-lose arrangements where one party benefits at the other’s expense (a “what’s in it for me” or “WIIFMe” mentality). In contrast, Vested creates a win-win relationship in which both parties are equally Vested in each other’s success (a “what’s in it for we” or “WIIFWe” mentality).

Win-win

Win-win is also known as “solutions concept” and is based on what is often referred to as “game theory.” The most famous of the behavioural economists are John Nash and Robert Axelrod. Vested leverages win-win thinking associated with behavioural economics.

Collaboration, transparency, flexibility, and trust

Vested relationships depend on collaboration, transparency, flexibility, and trust. Rather than conventional arrangements where companies buy transactions or services from suppliers, Vested arrangements instead focus on “buying results.”

Value for both parties

Vested relationships and agreements create value for both parties that did not exist previously.
